About Us

Adilia Elena Torres Garcia

She, Her, Ella

Healing is a gift that emerges from seeds cultivated by struggle, broken borders, and bold dreams. I learn this daily through my healing journey and through my life’s work. I am a queer mental health practitioner in the Bay Area. I migrated to the United States when I was seven years old and remained undocumented for 28 years. I was raised in Los Angeles as a Chicana-Indigena descended from Yoreme people of Sinaloa and Cora from Nayarit, Mexico and became a Bay Area transplant many years ago when I moved here for graduate school.

I was welcomed to the Bay through a spiritual healing community at a time that I needed it most and it is in part through this community of healers, spiritual relatives, that inspired the vision of what would later become La Botanica Azúl Healing Arts & Counseling, a heart project that houses the traditional plant medicines and wisdoms of Indigenous, Black, Queer, and People of Color healers.

I graduated from California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, receiving an MA in Counseling Psychology with a focus in Community Mental Health. My practice is informed in liberation psychology, Chicana & Indigenous knowledge in mental health and integrating principles of traditional medicine of Mexico. I am committed to centering cultural and spiritual attunement. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in Oakland, California with a focus on the well being of our Raza Cosmica - from the South to the North.

Approach

My daily practice as a mental health clinician is guided and shaped by culturally relevant services imbued with an Indigenous approach to healing and medicine. My work is focused on trauma-informed care and recovery services for children, youth, adults, and families impacted by (im)migration, displacement, and other forms of oppression. Even though I utilize a western psychological theoretical orientation in Narrative Therapy, Grief Therapy, Family Therapy; I firmly believe in a holistic approach to mental health that cannot be separated from physical and spiritual health. Because you can’t lose your heart in the theory, you have to come to this work with Amor, Love.

The clinical emphasis of my work is focused on psychotherapy from the lens of trauma-informed care, strength-based, the connection with somatic practices and harm reduction. I address challenges with depression, anxiety, trauma including PTSD, attachment, anger in children, family reunification, and birth trauma. During our sessions we will incorporate different modalities that may call to you such as movement, journaling, art, mindfulness and breathing exercises, among other possibilities that will aid in your healing.
